Water Bottle Recycling Pickup

A big thank you to everyone who puts their empty plastic water bottles in a recycling bin. We will not have recycling pickup today, October 1. School-wide recycling pickup will resume next Tuesday. There are over 3.1 million Breast Cancer Survivors in the United States. Exercise reduces breast cancer risks for women of all body types and is also beneficial for survivors so get out and move! Please come out at support by wearing PINK at the Cancer Awareness Football Game tonight.

Starting today (First day only) We are now taking recycling EVERYDAY during BIC. Bring your recyclables to the front of the MPR during 1st or 5th period everyday. Your recycling efforts will help students get college credit from Ohio state, a big ten school. That is correct college credit, three semester units. Scholars live on campus, participate in college readiness seminars, academic support groups, and social events. There are three sessions. The California Community Colleges' "I Can Afford College" campaign is launching a new contest, “Snaps for College Cash”. The contest will have three winners (grand prize winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship that can be used for community college costs). The deadline is December 30th, 2018, winners will be announced in mid-January. To enter, visit the icanaffordcollege.com and follow the three easy steps.

College Corner

Washington College will be visiting the College Corner during lunch on October 8th. John Hopkins will be visiting the College Corner during FAS on October 9th. The PSAT is this Wednesday, October 10th. Brown University will be at the Flintridge Preparatory School on Tuesday, October 9th at 6:00 PM. If you are unable to make to the first day, Brown University will also be at the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies on Tuesday, October 16th at 7:00 PM. For those interested in applying to Brown, Brown will offer applicants the opportunity to request an interview by choosing to “opt-in” via the Brown applicant portal or students may choose to upload a short video testimonial to tell Brown about themselves. Students will have until November 9th to opt-in or upload a video for Early Decision or until January 9th for Regular Decision. For more information, visit brown.edu.

Occidental College Upward Bound will be here On Wednesday Oct 3rd ( all day, in the library) to introduce their TRIO program. Interested 9th and 10th grade English teachers can sign up to bring their class to this presentation by emailing me their name, period and student count for that period. Attention 9th graders: The PSAT is next week Oct 10th, if you wish to take the PSAT you must register by paying $16 in the student store by this Friday October 5th. All 10th and 11th graders should be studying using their PSAT study guide, the test is free to all 10th and 11th graders.

Students, Duke University will have admission officers presenting information and answering questions about their university, on September 25th at the Hilton Pasadena at 7:00 PM. For more information, visit the bulletin board near Ms. Hailey’s office. Reminder to students applying for Quest Bridge, the deadline is approaching soon. The deadline is this Thursday, September 27th. Seniors, Ms. G will be hosting a Private School Workshop this Thursday, September 27th, during 4th period in the College Corner. On September 28th, the University of San Francisco is visiting Wilson’s College Corner at 11:30 am. On Sunday September 30th M.I.T will be at Polytechnic School Auditorium in Pasadena to discuss life at M.I.T, academics, financial aid and how to apply.
