Spotlight on Mr. Chavez
Graphic Arts teacher Mr. Chavez is a Woodrow Wilson High School alumnus. After graduating from Wilson he went attended Los Angeles Trade Technical College before transferring to UCLA, where he majored in graphic communications. After graduating from college he began his teaching career at Wilson. He has been teaching the same subject in the same classroom for thirty-two years and he has never taught at any other schools, a true Mighty Mule. He also gets along with all the teachers at Wilson. Throughout the years Mr. Chavez has always had great students, at least nothing he could not handle. He went on to say technology and new academies have changed in a good way because they all have been successful.
There have been many more changes in the field of graphic communications than most people would think. There are skills competitions and technical competitions in this subject with organizations such as Skills USA. Mr. Chavez was proud to share that Wilson High School has over forty-five award winners, and three national winners where the students represent California and Wilson High School. Mr. Chavez, to this day, still loves his career. His hobbies are off-roading, going to the desert, traveling, and going to the mountains. He grew up in City Terrace and El Sereno. He is passionate about teaching and his career. Mr. Chavez does not have any pets due to a busy life. When asked what his favorite foods are, he stated that he enjoys everything his mother prepares for him. That is considered his favorite restaurant because he loves his mother's cooking.
