ib programme at whs: a brief history

Vision

English Language Arts encourages students to find their “voices” as they collaborate with world literature and complex texts. The study of English further develops their communication skills and cultural expression.  Students reflect rigorous critical-thinking at all levels of literacy from English Learners to students with special needs and to IB “Diploma Programme” participants.

Mission

Our mission is to provide a quality arts and educational experience that is creative and challenging to all students who have an interest or passion for the arts.  The integration of an education which supports the A-G requirements for college admission and a visual and performing arts theme will provide opportunities to increase student engagement and participation, promote the arts as an essential part of life by making connections to student life experiences and global issues, to promote visual and artistic literacy and create a lifelong passion for the arts.

"Day in and day out, I feel like our IB Programme at WHS has pushed me to become a better learner and civil agent. I've learned that being knowledgeable is part of the process to creating change."

- Marleen R. | Class of 2019 -

Reaching for More

Middle Years Programme: Research shows that students in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) performed better than non-IB students in a global International Schools’ Assessment study that ran from 2009-2011.

Diploma Programme: Further research indicates that Diploma Programme (DP) graduates complete college faster than their peers, feel more prepared for college-level coursework involving research, and are better able to cope with demanding workloads and time-management challenges.

"Although there is a classroom structure, I still feel like I get to be as creative as I want to in my MYP classes. Every class lets me develop my talents and reflect over my challenges in a positive way."

- Michelle B. | Class of 2016 -
